I've Been Broken. I Know Recovery.

My name is Barak van Wyk. I'm a South African counselor and life coach—and a survivor of the darkest season imaginable.

I lost my home. My car. My job due to a severe back injury. I lost the ability to walk. I lost my marriage of six years. And I lost the people I thought would be there.

But I didn't lose myself. That's why I'm here—to help others fight the same darkness and find their way back.

From Breakdown to Breakthrough

For months, I couldn't walk. Couldn't stand up straight. Couldn't tie my own shoes. And all of this while caring for my newborn son—just months old.

I was isolated. My family was on different continents. The people I loved most weren't there for me. I hit absolute zero.

But somewhere in that darkness, something shifted. I realized that my pain wasn't the end—it was a door.

I decided to use my strength to fight. To use my voice to uplift others. To rebuild not just for myself, but to show others how to rebuild too.

WHY THIS MATTERS

My Mission

I work with people who feel trapped by their own behavior—especially infidelity and relationship breakdown. I understand the shame. I understand feeling broken.

But I also know that shame doesn't heal anyone. Understanding does.

My programs are built on the same framework I used to rebuild my life: systems thinking, accountability, emotional honesty, and the belief that change is possible when you address the root cause, not just the symptom.

MY PHILOSOPHY

How I Work

  • No Shame. Shame keeps people stuck. Accountability moves them forward.
  • Systems Over Symbols. I don't ask people to be "better." I help them rebuild the internal systems that drive behavior.
  • Evidence-Based. Attachment theory, trauma-informed care, impulse regulation, nervous system work—everything is rooted in psychology and proven frameworks.
  • Honest About Pain. Change is hard. Growth requires sitting with discomfort. I meet people where they are, not where they wish they were.
  • Lasting Change. My goal isn't compliance or fear-based control. It's rebuilding someone so completely that the old behavior becomes unnecessary and unattractive.
